University of Connecticut selects Progeos Open GIS software for MAGIC mapping library. Internet mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) developer Progeos has been selected to pilot the next generation of online mapping for the MAGIC map library at the University of Connecticut. As one of the largest spatial data repositories in the country MAGIC selected the Progeos web mapping solution after trying for 5 years to build a solution based on leading proprietary systems. The Progeos web mapping site allows the University to store approximately 1 Terabyte of mapping information on a platform that allows users to download information as a map or a file in a variety of formats. Virtually any spatial data format can be stored on the map server and displayed on a variety of specialized websites under development. About MAGIC The mapping and geographic information center at the University of Connecticut collects maps, atlases, gazetteers, aerial photographs, and digital geospatial data, as well as resources on the history and current state of cartography.

EDINA selects Cadcorp SIS and GeognoSIS software for national geospatial data service. Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that after a thorough, competitive tender process, the EDINA National Data Centre has placed a contract for the supply of multiple licences of the Cadcorp SIS and Cadcorp GeognoSIS family of products and associated training and consultancy services. The new software will replace other systems currently in use at EDINA and will form the basis of a wider application providing map data services to the academic community. About EDINA EDINA is the JISC national academic data centre based at the University of Edinburgh. Its mission and purpose is to ‘enhance the productivity of research, learning and teaching’ across all universities, research institutes and colleges in the UK. EDINA does this by delivering first-rate online services and by working with support staff in universities and colleges and with other partners in the academic community, and beyond, and by carrying out successful R&D projects. Digimap is a suite of EDINA services which deliver a wide range of maps and map data of Great Britain to UK tertiary education. Mapping data is available either to download to use with appropriate application software such as GIS or CAD, or as maps generated online.
